L2 Agricultural & Horticultural Science: Livestock Behaviour

This module explores the interaction of livestock behaviour and management practices in NZ

Course Overview

This module explores how management practices used on New Zealand farms impact livestock behaviour and how this can be developed in a positive way to enhance and sustain agricultural production. It looks at the meanings behind the behaviours and how underatanding them can improve primary production to meet producer and consumer needs. Access to an agricultural setting to observe livestock is required. New Zealand studnets may gain 4 Level 2 NCEA credits if they choose to complete a written report at the end of the module.

I have been teaching Chemistry and junior Science at Waitaki Girls High School for 14 years as well as Ag / Hort and Agribusiness. As these have elements such as healthy food sources, the business of farming, science of genetics and reproduction and environmental concerns included in the criteria they cover many areas that I am passionate about. One of my interests is growing healthier food as we will need to feed more people with less land. Outside of school we have an orchard, mainly heritage variety apples and are involved in sequence dancing (a little different from ballroom).
